Guimaras Records 33.42% Decline in Aquaculture Production in Q1 2025
Guimaras registered a significant decrease in aquaculture production during the first quarter of 2025. The total volume dropped to 652.32 metric tons, marking a 33.42 percent decline from the 979.73 metric tons recorded in the same period of 2024. See Figure 1.
Milkfish dominates aquaculture fish production in Guimaras in Q1 2025
The decrease in Aquaculture production in Guimaras was largely attributed to the drop in milkfish production, which fell by 33.60 percent, from 954.08 metric tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 633.47 metric tons in the first quarter of 2025.
Other species also recorded significant declines, including oyster and white shrimp, which dropped by 88.92 percent and 84.68 percent, respectively. In contrast, positive growth was observed in the production of catfish, seaweed, and tilapia. Catfish production rose sharply by 810.00 percent, from 0.20 metric tons to 1.82 metric tons. Seaweed production increased by 670.67 percent, while tilapia saw a modest growth of 25.46 percent.
Guimaras Aquaculture Production Value Drops by 40.38% in Q1 2025
The total value of aquaculture production in Guimaras decreased by 40.38 percent in the first quarter of 2025, falling to PHP91.04 million from PHP152.71 million in the same period in 2024. The decline was largely driven by milkfish, which remained the highest valued species despite a 38.23 percent drop, from PHP145.54 million in the first quarter of 2024 to PHP89.90 million in the first quarter of 2025. Milkfish continued to account for most of the province’s aquaculture value.
Other species such as oyster and white shrimp also recorded notable declines in value, decreasing by 88.95 percent and 82.28 percent, respectively. In contrast, the value of catfish rose by 2,603.98 percent, tilapia increased by 839.80 percent, and seaweed went up by 43.13 percent.
