Headline inflation or overall inflation in Western Visayas slowed down to 9.1 percent in March 2023, from 10.8 percent in February 2023. In March 2022, the inflation was lower at 4.6 percent. Headline inflation in the province of Aklan drops from 8.1 percent to 6.9 percent this March. However, this is relatively higher by 4.1 percentage points compared to 2.8 percent inflation rate reported in March 2022. Inflation of prices for all items in Western Visayas accelerated to 10.8 percent in February 2023, from 10.3 percent in January 2023. This is the highest recorded inflation since November 2008 at 11.1 percent. In February 2022, inflation was at 3.3 percent. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages has consistently led the uptrend of average inflation rate of Aklan from 7.9 percent to 8.1 percent in a month. The total fisheries production of Western Visayas in 2022 was estimated at 334,846 metric tons. The production decreased by 11.13 percent or about 41,934 metric tons less from the 2021’s reported volume of production. The decrease was attributed to the aquaculture sector with 29.13 percent negative growth rate. Moreover, Inland fisheries decreased by 43.30 percent.
