Employment Situation in Western Visayas for April 2024

In April 2024, the labor force participation rate (LFPR) in Western Visayas was 62.4 percent which accounted for 3.547 million of the 5.685 million persons who were 15 years old and over (Table 1). This recorded a 0.5 percentage point increase from 61.9 percent of the reported LFPR in January 2024 and 3.3 percentage point decrease from 65.7 percent recorded in April 2023

Livestock and Poultry Statistics in Western Visayas: First Quarter of 2024

Two of the four livestock animal types in Western Visayas recorded decreases in production during the first quarter of 2024 compared with the same quarter last year. Hog production, estimated at 24,689 metric tons for the first quarter of 2024, declined by 53.3 percent against the production of 52,880 metric tons in the first quarter of 2023. Similarly, Goat production decreased by 19.6 percent, from 1,845 metric tons in 2023 to 1483 metric tons in 2024.

PALAY PRODUCTION IN WESTERN VISAYAS FIRST QUARTER OF 2024

The total palay production of Western Visayas in the first quarter of 2024 was estimated at 648,136 metric tons. It decreased by 2.8 percent or 18,885 metric tons less compared with the same quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the total area harvested in the first quarter of 2024 is estimated at 206,268 hectares which was 1.9 percent higher compared with the same quarter last year.

FISHERIES PRODUCTION IN WESTERN VISAYAS FIRST QUARTER OF 2024

The total fisheries production of Western Visayas in the first quarter of 2024 was estimated at 66,561 metric tons. The production decreased by 10.4 percent or about 7,762 metric tons less from the same quarter of 2023’s reported volume of production. The decrease was attributed to all subsectors, namely: aquaculture, commercial, marine municipal and inland fisheries sectors, with negative 4.4 percent, 6.8 percent, 18.5 percent and 63.4 percent, respectively.
