Governor Rhodora Cadiao of Antique Province turned over an amount of Php150,000.00 to the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) on September 24, 2024 for the conduct of various activities to celebrate the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) this October 2024.

PSC Co-Chair Dr. Randy M. Tacogdoy, Chief Statistical Specialist of Philippine Statistics Authority-Antique, personally received the cheque from the Honorable Governor during a simple ceremony in the Governor’s Office at Sumakwel Hall, New Capitol Building in San Jose, Antique.  

The NSM celebration in Antique is spearheaded by the PSC which is composed of different National Government Agencies (NGAs) and representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs) with PSA and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) of the Provincial Government as lead agencies. It is being observed annually through conduct of activities which are geared at promoting, enhancing and instilling nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society. 

During the PSC General Assembly Meeting (GAM) held in San Jose town on September 13, 2024, the Committee has identified NSM activities to be conducted in October including the October 7 opening program and opening of statistical exhibit, hanging of 35th NSM streamers, Statistics Quiz for junior high school students (provincial and regional eliminations), Philippine Statistics Quiz for college students (provincial and regional eliminations), statistics research forum, statistical conference, e-poster contests for students and NGAs/LGUs, inter-school chess competition, media interviews, caravan, and tree-planting activity, among others. 

The National Statistics Month (NSM) was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month. 

This year’s NSM theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation” highlights the significant role of technology in advancing the statistical system and the quality of statistics through the adoption of digital tools and platforms optimizing government services to improve the accuracy, timeliness and accessibility of statistics. Ultimately, enabling decision- and policy-makers, and other stakeholders to craft evidence-based and data-driven policies for an empowered nation.
