The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Negros Occidental conducts the first Press Conference on the January 2024 Inflation Report, which was held on 16 January 2024 (Friday), at the PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistics Office (PSO). PSA Negros Occidental Chief Statistical Specialist John F. Campomanes is the resource person for the event.

Highlights of the press conference are the Headline Inflation Rates for All Income Households for January 2023, December 2023, and January 2024, which indicate 12.2%, 3.5%, 2.2%, for Negros Occidental, and 12.1%, 4.0%, and 2.5% for Bacolod City.

For Negros Occidental, the Main Sources of Deceleration of the January 2024 Inflation are the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Health, and Transport which indicate 92.0%, 2.0%, and 1.7% share a downtrend in inflation. Meanwhile, the Major Contributors to the January 2024 Inflation in Negros Occidental are Food and Alcoholic Beverages, Restaurants and Accommodation, Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance which indicates 3.9, 10.4, and 7.0 Inflation, and 70.7, 35.2, and 10.6 percent share.

For Bacolod City, the Main Sources of Deceleration of the January 2024 Inflation are Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Restaurants and Accommodation Services, and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Fuels which indicates 64.5%, 15.7%. and 12.7% share to downtrend in inflation. Meanwhile, the Major Contributors to the January 2024 Inflation in Bacolod City are the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Education Services, and Restaurants and Accommodation which indicate 4.5, 17.2, and 4.1 Inflation, and 61.1, 22.0, and 14.0 percent share.

Also, Inflation Rates for the bottom 30% Income Households for January 2023, December 2023, and January 2024, indicate 13.1%, 3.8%, and 2.5% for Negros Occidental, and 12.9%, 5.7%, and 3.7% for Bacolod City.

The said event garnered support from the media personnel who attended, and other viewers through a livestream on the PSA Negros Occidental official Facebook page. The PSA Negros Occidental is set to conduct the Press Conference on Inflation every month.
