Mortality rate in Iloilo increases in 2023
In 2023, total recorded deaths in Iloilo increased by 1.1 percent, from 19,357 to 19,561. However, trends differed by location. Deaths in Iloilo Province decreased by 3.2 percent (13,274 to 12,846), while Iloilo City saw a 10.4 percent increase (6,083 to 6,715).
When considering the usual residence of the deceased, overall deaths increased by 0.1 percent, from 18,937 in 2022 to 18,965 in 2023. Deaths among residents of Iloilo Province slightly declined (-0.1%), while those in Iloilo City rose by 1.0 percent (3,587 to 3,624).

Male mortality higher than female mortality
In 2023, Iloilo Province recorded a total of 12,846 deaths, with 7,211 male deaths (56.1%) and 5,635 female deaths (43.9%). This results in a sex ratio of approximately 128 males per 100 females.
In Iloilo City, there were 6,715 total deaths, consisting of 3,808 male deaths (56.7%) and 2,907 female deaths (43.3%), yielding a sex ratio of roughly 131 males per 100 females.

Most death occurrences in the third district of Iloilo
The Third District recorded the highest number of deaths at 3,207 (25.0%), while the Fifth District reported 2,889 (22.5%). Combined, these two districts accounted for almost half (47.5%) of the total registered deaths in the province.
The Fourth District recorded 2,566 deaths (20.0%), followed by the First District with 2,391 (18.6%). The Second District had the lowest count at 1,793, making up 14.0 percent of the total.

Pototan records most deaths in Iloilo; Bingawan records least
The top five municipalities with the highest number of registered deaths account for a significant portion of the total. Pototan recorded the highest number with 852 deaths, making up 7.5 percent of all recorded cases in the province. This was followed by Barotac Nuevo with 715 deaths (6.3%), the City of Passi with 622 deaths (5.5%), Sara with 592 deaths (5.2%), and Guimbal with 562 deaths (4.9%). The top five municipalities together accounted for 29.4 percent of all registered cases in Iloilo Province.

On the other hand, the five municipalities with the lowest number of registered deaths had considerably smaller shares. Bingawan recorded the least with 51 deaths, accounting for only 0.5 percent, followed by San Rafael with 54 deaths (0.5%), Mina with 87 deaths (0.8%), Batad with 92 deaths (0.8%), and Zarraga with 93 deaths (0.8%). Altogether, these five contributed only 3.4 percent of the total.

Iloilo registers about 1,600 deaths per month in 2023
The registered deaths in Iloilo Province fluctuated throughout the year, with the highest number recorded in July at 1,177 deaths, followed by August with 1,071 deaths. The lowest number of deaths occurred in June, with 950 deaths. On average, the province recorded approximately 1,071 deaths per month.
In Iloilo City, the highest number of deaths was recorded in October, with 620 deaths, followed closely by December, with 616 deaths. The lowest number of deaths occurred in April, with 457 deaths. The city's monthly average was approximately 560 deaths.

Iloilo records rise in Maternal and Infant Mortality
Maternal deaths showed an increase in both Iloilo Province and Iloilo City between 2022 and 2023. In Iloilo Province, the number of maternal deaths rose slightly from 12 in 2022 to 14 in 2023, indicating a 16.7 percent increase.
However, Iloilo City experienced a higher rise, with maternal deaths almost doubling from 12 in 2022 to 23 in 2023.

In terms of infant mortality, Iloilo Province saw a decrease from 195 in 2022 to 185 in 2023, with a 5.1 percent decline. However, Iloilo City experienced a significant surge (53.8%), with infant deaths rising from 239 in 2022 to 368 in 2023.
