Headline Inflation 

 

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Negros Occidental conducts its twelfth Press Conference on the December 2024 Inflation Report on 14 January 2025 (Wednesday), at the PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistics Office (PSO). PSA Negros Occidental Chief Statistical Specialist John F. Campomanes serves as the resource person for the event.

Highlights of the press conference covers the Headline Inflation Rates for All Income Households in Negros Occidental increased at 3.7% in December from 3.0% in November 2024. In December 2023, the inflation rate was posted at 3.5% (Please see Table 1 and Figure 1).

 

The following commodity groups were the top three main sources to the December 2024 overall inflation for All Income Households in Negros Occidental: 

 

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 2.9% inflation in December from 2.6% inflation in November 2024, with 35.3% share,

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 4.2% inflation in December from 2.2% inflation in November 2024, with 19.5% share,

Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 9.7% inflation both in December and November 2024, with 19.5% share.

 

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups were the top three major contributors to the December 2024 overall inflation for All Income Households in Negros Occidental: 

 

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 4.2% inflation in December from 2.2% in November 2024, with 49.3% share,

Transport at 0.3% inflation in December from -1.9% in November 2024, with 25.9% share,

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 2.9% inflation in December from 2.6% in November 2024, with 19.3% share.

 

Also, higher inflation rates were observed in the indices of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 3.5% in December from 2.3% in November 2024, as well as Clothing and Footwear at 5.8% in December from 5.7% in November 2024. 

 

On the other hand, lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at 2.5% in December from 3.3% in November 2024, Health at 3.2% in December from 3.8% in November 2024, and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 2.7% in December from 2.95 in November 2024.

 

The indices for the rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s inflation, such as Information and Communication at 1.3%, Recreation, Sport and Culture at 2.7%, Education Services at 18.4%, Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 9.7%, and Financial Services at -0.1%.

Bacolod City

 

Further, the Headline Inflation Rates for All Income Households in Bacolod City decreased to 2.4% in December from 2.7% in November 2024. In December 2023, the inflation rate was posted at 4.0% (Please see Table 1 and Figure 2).

 

The following commodity groups were the top three main sources to the December 2024 overall inflation for All Income Households in Bacolod City:

 

Clothing and Footwear at 12.9% inflation both in December and November 2024, with 22.1% share,

Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 5.8% inflation both in December and November 2024, with 20.8% share,

Education Services at 14.9% inflation both in December and November 2024, with 20.0% share.

 

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups were the top two major contributors to the December 2024 overall inflation for All Income Households in Bacolod City: 

 

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 1.2% inflation in December from 2.9% in November 2024, with 87.7% share,

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels at -0.5% inflation in December from -0.2% in November 2024, with 10.7% share. 

 

On the other hand, higher inflation rates were observed in the indices of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 4.3% in December from 1.5% in November 2024, Transport at -0.4 in December from -2.6 in November 2024, and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 4.9% in December from 4.8% in November 2024.

 

Concurrently, lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of Health at 4.0% in December from 4.2% in November 2024, as well as Recreation, Sport, and Culture at 3.5% in December from 3.9% in November 2024.

 

The indices in the rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s inflation, such as Clothing and Footwear at 12.9%, Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at 3.0%, Information and Communication at 1.1%, Education Services at 14.9%, Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 5.8%, and Financial Services at -11.1%.
