Inflation rate in the province of Antique slightly grew to 5.8 percent in June 2024, from 5.7 percent in May 2024. The recorded inflation rate in June 2023 was significantly higher at 6.7 percent.

The June 2024 provincial inflation rate was higher as compared to the national and regional inflation rates. The inflation rate in the Philippines significantly increased to 5.4 percent in June 2024, from 3.9 percent in May 2024. The national inflation rate in June 2023 was recorded at 3.7 percent. Further, the inflation rate of Western Visayas continued to increase to 4.9 percent in June 2024, from 4.3 percent in May 2023. Inflation rate in Western Visayas in June of 2023 was recorded at 6.8 percent. 

The slight increase in the province’s inflation in June 2024 was mainly influenced by the higher annual increase in the indices of Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 4.5 percent in June 2024, from 3.2 percent in May 2024; Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 3.3 percent in June 2024, from 1.6 percent in May 2024; and, Recreation, sport and culture at 4.0 percent in June 2024, from 3.1 percent in May 2024.  

 

Higher annual increment for the indices of Information and culture was also observed at 0.3 percent at June 2024, from 0.2 percent in May 2024; and Restaurants and accommodation services at 5.6 percent in June 2024, from 5.4 percent in May 2024.

Moreover, slower annual increments were observed for the following commodity groups:

a.    Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 8.1 percent;
b.    Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.0 percent;
c.    Furnishings, household equipment and routine household, 1.5 percent; and,
d.    Transport, 3.4 percent.

The indices for the following commodity groups, however, showed no changes from its last month’s inflation rate:


a.    Clothing and footwear, 2.1 percent;
b.    Health, 3.7 percent;
c.    Education services, 2.8 percent; and, 
d.    Financial services, -0.1 percent.    

The recorded inflation rate for food was recorded at 8.6 percent in June 2024, from 8.8 percent in May 2024. The food commodity group with the highest share to food inflation was Cereals and cereal products at 24.1 percent in June 2024, from 27.9 percent in May 2024.

Further, slower annual increments were also observed for the following food commodity groups:

a.    Oils and fats, 2.2 percent; and, 
b.    Sugar, confectionery and desserts.

Moreover, higher annual increment was observed for the indices of the following food commodity group:

a.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 13.9 percent;
b.    Fish and other seafood, -9.1 percent;
c.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 4.4 percent;
d.    Fruits and nuts, 6.7;
e.    Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, 2.1percent; and,
f.    Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c, 4.4 percent.
