FEBRUARY 2025, ANTIQUE


Inflation rate in the province of Antique slowed down to 0.0 percent in February 2025, from 2.3 percent in January. Mixed movements in the indices of commodity groups resulted to the zero percent annual rate. The recorded inflation rate of Antique in February 2024 was significantly higher at 5.5 percent. The year-to-date inflation rate as of February 2025 was 1.1 percent.
The February 2025 provincial inflation rate was lower as compared to the national and regional inflation rates. The inflation rate of the Philippines slowed down to 2.1 percent in February 2025, from 2.9 percent in January 2025. The national inflation rate in February 2024 was higher at 3.4 percent. Moreover, inflation rate of Western Visayas slowed down to 2.7 percent in February 2025, from 3.6 percent in January 2025. The recorded regional inflation rate in February 2024 was significantly higher at 10.8 percent.
The downtrend in the province’s inflation rate in February 2025 was mainly influenced by the slower annual increase in the indices of Food and non-alcoholic beverages at -1.2 percent in February 2025, from 2.7 percent in January 2025; Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 1.5 percent in February 2025, from 2.4 percent in January 2025; and, Transport at -1.3 percent in February 2025, from -0.1 percent in January 2025.

Further, slower annual increments were also observed for the following commodity groups:
a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.5 percent;
b. Clothing and footwear, 2.3 percent;
c. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 1.9 percent;
d. Recreation, sport and culture, 3.1 percent; and,
e. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 3.0 percent.
The indices for the following commodity groups, however, showed no changes from its last month’s inflation rate:
a. Health, 1.6 percent;
b. Information and communication, 0.1 percent;
c. Education services, -3.3 percent; and,
d. Restaurants and accommodation services, 2.0 percent.
The recorded food inflation rate in Antique slowed down to -1.2 percent in February 2025, from 2.9 percent in January 2025. The food commodity group with the highest share to the food inflation trend was Cereals and cereal products, especially rice, with an inflation rate of -12.3 percent in February 2025, from -3.9 percent in January 2025.
Further, slower annual increments were also observed for the following commodity groups:
a. Fish and other seafood, 1.6 percent;
b. Fruits and nuts, 6.5 percent; and,
c. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, 9.9 percent.
Moreover, higher annual increments were recorded for the following food commodity groups:
a. Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 3.7 percent;
b. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 1.4 percent; and,
c. Ready-made food and other food products, n.e.c., 1.6 percent.
