17 July 2024– Guimaras. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Fixed Registration Center (FRC) is actively engaged in updating and correcting the demographic information of individuals registered in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).
“This ongoing effort is in accordance with Section 11 of Republic Act No. 11055, also known as the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act, which mandates that registered individuals must keep their registration information up to date, which includes making changes or corrections to data stored within the PhilSys database," Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
PSO Losare expounded that when individuals wish to update their demographic information, they must bring their PhilID or ePhilID and provide original supporting documents that substantiate the requested changes or corrections.
“This ensures the accuracy and validity of the updated information," Losare cited.
The PhilSys updating services offered registered individuals the opportunity to modify various demographic details stored in the National ID system.
"The said changes can include, but are not limited to, updates to name, marital status, gender, date or place of birth, address, blood type, and corrections of any clerical or typographical errors that may have occurred," Losare cited.
“However, it is important to note that for now, PhilSys Updating does not include the deletion of data”, Losare added.
PSO expounded further that, the primary objective of PhilSys Updating is to ensure that the demographic information of registered individuals remains accurate and current.
“By allowing for updates and corrections, the system maintains its reliability and usefulness for identification and verification purposes. The exclusion of data deletion from this process is intended to preserve the integrity and continuity of the records within the system”, Losare stated.
She also highlighted that deleting data could lead to gaps or inconsistencies in an individual's identification record, which might affect the person's ability to use the National ID for various services and transactions.
“Therefore, while updates and corrections are allowed to enhance accuracy, the deletion of data is not permitted to ensure that each individual's record remains complete and functional”, Losare said.
“PhilSys Updating is designed to refine and improve the demographic data within the National ID system without compromising the integrity of the records by deleting any information,” Losare added.
The PSA began the gradual rollout of demographic information updates in the National ID system across selected provinces on May 17, 2024.
"Other remaining provinces, including Guimaras, officially commenced their PhilSys Updating activities on June 17", Losare stated.
“As of July 17, 2024, the FRC in Guimaras successfully updated twenty-five PhilID cards," Losare added.
Additionally, the PSA PhilSys Guimaras continues its operations for national ID registration, catering to individuals aged one year and above.
Apart from the updating, the FRC continues to accept requests for PhilID card replacements due to issues such as peeled-off photos, thereby ensuring the integrity of the issued identification card.
Moreover, PSA Guimaras remains committed to facilitating PhilSys registration activities by welcoming walk-in registrants at the FRC. Recognizing the challenges faced by registrants residing in geographically isolated or disadvantaged areas, a mobile registration team is actively visiting these locations to register those who may encounter difficulties traveling to the FRC.
“The efforts of PSA Guimaras underscore their commitment to maintaining accurate and updated demographic information within the PhilSys, ensuring that all registered individuals have access to reliable and secure National ID services across the province”, Losare said
