In the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH), Sibunag, Guimaras recorded a total population of 23,162, and a total household population of 23,159, of which, 12,041 (52.0%) were males, and 11,118 (48.0%) were females.
By age group, 6,917 individuals (29.9%) were young dependents (under 15 years old), while 1,631 individuals (7.0%) were aged 65 and above, categorized as old dependents. Compared to 2015, the proportion of young dependents was slightly lower (30.4%), and the elderly population increased from 6.1% to 7.0%.
Meanwhile, the working-age population (15 to 64 years old) made up 14,611 (63.1%), slightly lower than the 65.3% in the 2015 survey.
The result of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing disclosed that there were more male household population than females in Sibunag. The males comprised the bulk at 52.0 percent while the remaining 48.0 percent were female households.
The wider base of the household population pyramid (Fig 1) bared that Sibunag has a very young household population, those of age group 5-24 years old comprised 37.6 percent of the municipal total, dominated by males (52.69%) than females (47.31%).
More males than female households were noted among age groups 0-69 years old, comprising 95.47 percent of the municipal total with an average age gap of 5.03 percentage points while household population aged 70 years old and over accounted for 7.04 percent of the municipal total were female dominated with an average gender gap of 9.26 percentage points.
Sex ratio stands at 106 males per 100 females
The sex ratio of male over female households population in Sibunag, Guimaras, was computed at 106 in 2020. This means that there were 106 males for every 100 females, lower than the sex ratio in 2015 recorded at 108 males per 100 females.
In 2020, the sex ratio among children under 15 years was 109 males for every 100 females. For the working-age group (15 to 64 years), the ratio was slightly higher at 111 males per 100 females. However, among those aged 65 and older, the sex ratio dropped to 83 males per 100 females. This trend suggests that females tend to have a longer life expectancy than males or that the mortality rate is higher among males in the older age group.
More males than females in children under five years old
The sex ratio for children under five years old in 2020 was 106 males per 100 females, slightly higher than the 2015 ratio of 105 males per 100 females. Additionally, children under five comprised 9.8 percent (2,269 persons) of the municipal total household population in 2020, a decrease from 10.7 percent (2,362 persons) in 2015.
Median age measures at 27 years
The median age of Sibunag, Guimaras household population continues to increase during the past three censuses.
In 2020, the median age was computed at 27 years, which means that half of the household population was younger than 27 years, while the other half is older than 27 years. This is higher than the median ages of 25 and 24 years that was posted in 2015 and 2010, respectively.
Dependency ratio is 58 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group
The 2020 overall dependency ratio of Nueva Valencia was computed at 58.5, which indicates that for every 100 working-age or economically-active population, there were about 58 dependents (47 young dependents and 11 old dependents). This is slightly higher but almost the same than the dependency ratio in 2015 at 57.5 dependents per 100 working age population (48 young dependents and 10 old dependents).
Two in every five-household population are of school age
In 2020, the school-age population (5 to 24 years old) accounted for 8,714 (37.6%) of the household population which is lower compared to the 8,707 (39.3%) school-age population that was reported in 2015.
Moreover, there were more males (52.7%) than females (47.3%) of the school-age population in 2020.
Senior citizens account 10.41 percent of the household population
In Sibunag, Guimaras, people aged 60 years old and over, regarded as senior citizens, made up 10.41 percent (2,410 persons) of the household population in 2020, higher than the 8.9 percent (1,962 persons) recorded in 2015.
There were more females (53.0%) than males (47.0%) among the senior citizens in 2020. The same trend was observed in 2015.
More than half of the female household population are of reproductive age
Women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years old) totaled at 5,494 or 49.4 percent of the 11,118 female household population in 2020. This percentage was lower compared to the 51.3 percent or 5,471 females posted in 2015.
Aging index is higher by 5.7 percentage points in 2020
In Sibunag, Guimaras, the aging index or the proportion of persons aged 60 years and over per 100 persons under the age of 15 years was computed at 34.8 percent in 2020. This means that there are about 35 persons aged 60 years and over for every 100 children under 15 years old. The aging index was lower in 2015 at 29.1 percent.

The Philippine Statistics Authority conducted the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) in September 2020, with 01 May 2020 as reference date.
The 2020 CPH was the 15th census of population and 7th census of housing that was undertaken in the Philippines since the first census in 1903. It was designed to take inventory of the total population and housing units in the country and collect information about their characteristics.
The Philippine Standard Geographic Codes as of April 2022 was used for the disaggregation of geographic levels of the 2020 CPH.
Age refers to the interval of time between the person’s date of birth and his/her last birthday prior to the census reference date. It is expressed in completed years or whole number.
Aging index is calculated as the number of persons 60 years old and over per one hundred persons under the age of 15 years.
Aging of population is a process in which the proportions of adults and elderly increase in a population, while the proportions of children and adolescents decrease. This process results in a rise in the median age of the population. Aging occurs when fertility rates decline while life expectancy remains constant or improves at the older ages.
Household is a social unit consisting of people or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.
Household population refers to all people who are members of the household.
Median age is the age that divides the population into two numerically equal groups; that is, half of the population are younger than this age and the other half are older.
Overall dependency ratio is the number of persons under 15 years old (young dependents) and persons aged 65 and older (old dependents) per one hundred persons 15 to 64 years old (working-age or economically-productive group) in a population.
