21 February 2025- Bacolod City. The Philippine Statistics Authority - Negros Occidental successfully organized the 35th Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Quiz Bee elimination at the PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) among Local Civil Registry (LCR) and PSA personnel. The event witnessed the eager participation of eleven (11) LCR personnel from various cities and municipalities of the province and seventeen (17)
regular employees of PSA Neg. Occ.

The quiz bee, an annual event that intends to promote awareness and understanding of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), ran in three rounds of ten questions each. It aims to disseminate the importance of CRVS in governance, planning, and development among the participants, with all the questions related to CRVS, including vital event registration, and vital statistics.

In the quiz’s LCR edition, Ma. Lyn S. Panizales, representative of the Local Civil Registry Office of Victorias City, emerged as champion. Sjemlyn Potato from La Castellana and Mary Angel Pastrana from Isabela placed second and third respectively.  Manuela Tubola from Ilog placed fourth, while Cecilia Lirazan from Valladolid placed fifth.

In the PSA edition, Statistical Analyst Ms. Anna Carmela Gamilla bested all her competitors to take clear first. Statistical Specialist II Ms. Antonietta A. Gador and  Statistical Analyst Sir Resty John B. Bancruz took second and third respectively. 

All the participants displayed expertise and thorough knowledge of CRVS principles, were given tokens and certificates of participation. The top 2 placers in each division will represent Negros Occidental in the regional championship on February 28, 2025 in Iloilo City. 

Mr. John F. Campomanes, Interim Regional Director, and Diesah S. Biaoco, Supervising Statistical Specialist, expressed gratitude for the active participation of all the contestants.  They cited the importance of such events in nurturing interest in CRVS and fostering a culture of data literacy and awareness. Registration Officer II, Edwin Guiking, was also acknowledged for  organizing the event and serving as quiz master. 

PSA-Negros Occidental looks forward to next’s year’s quiz bee.
