17 FEBRUARY 2025 – TALISAY CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office of the Negros Island Region (NIR) held its first news conference on 22 April 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the East Hall, Nature's Village Resort, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, to present the 2024 Regional Accounts of the Philippines, focusing on the newly established region.
The conference highlighted the economic performance of the Negros Island Region in 2024. The region's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), at constant 2018 prices, grew by 5.9 percent in 2024, reaching an estimated value of 636 billion pesos. This represents an increase of approximately 35.35 billion pesos from the previous year. While the region experienced growth, the growth rate moderated from the 7.8 percent achieved in 2023.
Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, delivered the opening message. Interim Regional Director John F. Campomanes of the Regional Statistical Services Office of Negros Island Region presented the highlights of the 2024 Economic Performance of Negros Island Region, and Engr. Marlon T. Jinon from the National Economic and Development Authority NIR, discussed the implications of this economic growth for the region.
In terms of spending, the Negros Island Region's Gross Regional Domestic Expenditure (GRDE) also showed positive results, growing by 5.9 percent. Notably, Exports of Goods to the Rest of the World led this growth with a 22.0 percent increase, followed by Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) in Construction, which rose by 20.6 percent, and Imports of Services from the Rest of the World, which increased by 18.3 percent.
The event provided valuable insights into the economic landscape of the Negros Island Region, offering data and analysis relevant to policymakers, businesses, and the general public.
