Marriages lessened in 2023

In 2023, a total of 2,476 marriages were registered in the Province of Aklan. It decreased by 8.8% percent compared to 2,693 marriages recorded in the past year. This translates to an average of 206 marriages per month and about seven (7) marriages per day.

Furthermore, among the municipalities, Kalibo (capital) posted the highest number of marriages registered (573 or 23.1% share), followed by Malay (240 or 9.7% share) and Ibajay (210 or 8.5% share). Meanwhile, municipality of Balete posted the least number of marriages in 2023 with 62 registered marriages, followed by Makato and Altavas with 70 marriages and 20 marriages, respectively.

May is couples favorite month for marriage in 2023

Out of 2,476 marriages registered in 2023, highest recorded marriage were held during the month of May with 14.3 percent or 354 marriages. This was followed by the month of December with 302 marriages or 12.0 percent and October with 257 marriages or 10.4 percent.

On the other hand, November recorded the lowest number of registered marriages with 101 or 4.1 percent. This was followed by months of July and September which ties at both 156 (6.3%) registered marriages each.

Majority of couples married between ages 25-29 years old

Of the total number of registered marriages in the province, 40 percent of involved females that go through marriage aged 25 to 29 (1,029 marriages) while 35 percent of all involved males married at these ages. In addition, couples aged 30-34 also posted high percent share in registered marriages in 2023. Moreover, 39 females and 20 males with ages rung their wedding bells in their senior years.

In 2023, the median age of marriage was 29 years old for women and 30 years old for men, which were one year older than last year for females while median age remains the same for males. The number of adolescent females (22 or 0.9% share) who go through marriage was thrice than the number of males of the same age group (6 or 0.2% share).

About 98 percent of marriages were registered on time

Timely registration refers to registration of the marriage within 30 days of occurrence. In 2023, 2,439 marriages or 98.5 percent out of the 2,476 marriages were registered timely in the province of Aklan. This is a bit higher compared to the on 97.8 percent timely registration recorded the previous year.

Marriage is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Daily Average refers to the arithmetic mean of marriage occurrences per day.

Registration refers to the recording of the civil status (married) of the persons.

EXPLANATORY TEXT

Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the registered marriages, either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs). The information presented includes marriages that occurred from January to December 2023 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and processed as of 31 August 2024. Figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration. This release includes marriages of Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and marriages of foreign nationals that occurred in the country during the reference period. Marriages of Filipinos abroad which were reported to the Philippine Foreign Service Posts are presented in a separate report.

Marriage Statistics presented for the province of Aklan are taken from the database of Philippines Statistics Authority. Note that some figures (percentages) are rounded off to complement the analysis.
