The total number of Livestock inventory in Guimaras as of January 1 of the years 2020– 2024 disclosed that, from 2020 to 2024, there was a consistent yearly decline in the overall total livestock in the province pulled down by the decreasing number of carabaos while cattle showed a minor increment in 2021 but recorded a consistent fall in the following years, while goats declined marginally in 2021 but rose in the following years, not surpassing its 2020 level.

In 2020, the carabaos, cattle, and goats reached 11,070 heads, 14,194 heads, and 15,642 heads, respectively, while in 2021, the total number of carabaos slightly decreased to 10,864, and a minimal increase in cattle to 14,418 while the goats decreased to 13,014 heads.

Furthermore, in 2022, carabao, cattle, and goats decreased to 7,988, 10,331, and 13,764, respectively, but in 2021, carabao and cattle’s total number diminished to 7,882 and 9,604, respectively, while goats increased to 14,424 heads.

In 2024, the total number of carabao and cattle further decelerated to 7,632 and 8,227 heads, respectively while goats rose to 14,570 heads.

In five years, the Livestock inventory is dominated by goats, except in 2021, which was outnumbered by cattle.

Table 2 shows the percentage share of animals to the total livestock as of January 1 inventory of each year and the rate of change of the share for 2020 to 2024. Of the three animals, only goats recorded positive change in 2020-2024 with 25.22%. The share of goats to the total livestock was 38.24% in 2020 and increased to 47.88% in 2024.

Carabaos and Cattle showed a drop in their share for 2020-2024, recording a consistent decrease from 2022 to 2024. Cattle recorded a double-digit decrement of -22.08% share in the total inventory of Guimaras province from 34.70% share in 2020, but it decreased to 27.04% in 2024. Moreover, Carabaos showed a decrease of -7.32% share from 2020 to 2024. The share of the total number of carabao was 27.06% in 2020, but it decreased to 25.08% in 2024.

Goats dominated the livestock industry in Guimaras, evident from the fact that the share of goats in the total number of livestock has increased over the past three years while the share of carabao and cattle has decreased.

Cattle, Carabao, and Goats were dominantly raised by smallholder farmers for the past five years, except in 2024, wherein Semi-Commercial farms had raised 127 heads of cattle, accounting for 2.64% of the total cattle raised.

Goats raised in smallholder farms comprised the bulk of the livestock inventory for five years except in 2021, which dropped by -16.80% and outnumbered by cattle. However, when it recovered in 2022 with a growth of 5.76%, it continuously went up annually until 2024, reaching a total of 14,570 heads from 13,014 in 2021. Moreover, the inventory of Carabao and Cattle went in the opposite direction.

No livestock was raised by commercial and semi-commercial farms in Guimaras except for cattle in 2024 with 127 heads.
