20 March 2025– Guimaras. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office releases the report on Corn Production of Guimaras in Q4 2024. This includes the estimates of corn production and area harvested analysis which serves as a basis for policymaking and projects on corn.

The total corn production in Guimaras for the fourth quarter of 2024 was estimated at 296 metric tons, reflecting an increase of 1.72 percent compared to the 291 metric tons recorded in Q4 2023. Likewise, the total area harvested during the period was 155 hectares, a 59.79 percent increase compared to the 97 hectares recorded in Q4 2023.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, both types of corn saw an increase in production volume. White corn rose by 2.34 percent, or 3 metric tons, from 128 metric tons in Q4 2023 to 131 metric tons in the same quarter of 2024. Similarly, yellow corn recorded an increase of 1.23 percent, or 2 metric tons, rising from 163 metric tons in Q4 2023 to 165 metric tons in Q4 2024.

Total area harvested to white corn was at 85 hectares reflecting a 63.46 percent increase compared to the 52 hectares harvested in the same quarter of 2023. Similarly, the area harvested for yellow corn reached 70 hectares, marking a 55.56 percent growth in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the 45 hectares harvested in the same period of 2023.

Among the provinces in Region VI, Negros Occidental was the largest contributor to corn production, accounting for 56.54 percent of the region’s total output in the fourth quarter of 2024. It was followed by Iloilo and Capiz, with shares of 26.33 percent and 15.48 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, Guimaras, Antique, and Aklan recorded smaller contributions of 0.64 percent, 0.60 percent, and 0.41 percent, respectively.

Moreover, the total area harvested to corn declined by 4,943 hectares or 26.07 percent. This was due to the decrease in the provinces of Aklan, Negros Occidental and Antique by 47.44 percent, 37.63 percent and 26.87 percent respectively. However, Guimaras showed the highest increment in area harvested by 59.79 percent, followed by Iloilo with 30.36 percent and Capiz with 10.11 percent.

Negros Occidental had the largest share to the regional corn area harvested at 67.06 percent and a contribution of negative 29.91 percentage points to the regional decline. It was followed by Iloilo with 19.60 percent share to the regional total and a 30.36 percent increase from 2,108 hectares in 2023 to 2,748 hectares 2024.

Furthermore, Capiz was able to contribute 10.95 percentage share to the regional total, with 10.11 percent increase for the fourth quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, Guimaras, Antique and Aklan had smaller shares of 1.11 percent, 0.70 percent and 0.58 percent, respectively, to the total regional corn area harvested with percentage points contribution of 0.31 percent, -0.19 percent, and -0.39 percent, respectively to the regional reduction.
