1.    Headline Inflation

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Negros Occidental conducts Press Conference on the February 2025 Inflation Report on 14 March 2025 (Friday), at the PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistics Office (PSO). PSA Negros Occidental Supervising Statistical Specialist Diesah S. Biaoco serves as the resource person for the event.

A.    Negros Occidental

Highlights of the press conference covers the Headline Inflation Rates for All Income Households in Negros Occidental decreased at 2.0% in February 2025 from 2.7% in January 2025. In February 2024, the inflation rate was posted at 2.3% (Please see Table 1 and Figure 1).

The following commodity groups were the top three main sources to the February 2025 overall inflation for All Income Households in Negros Occidental:  

a.    Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 3.1% inflation in February from 2.2% inflation in January 2025, with 26.0% share,
b.    Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 4.4% inflation in February from 9.7% inflation in January 2025, with 16.0% share,
c.    Education Services at 18.4% inflation both in February and January 2025, with 12.1% share.

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups were the top three major contributors to the February 2025 overall inflation for All Income Households in Negros Occidental:  

a.    Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 0.4% inflation in February from 1.4% in January 2025, with 45.3% share,
b.    Restaurants and Accommodation Services 4.4% inflation in February from 9.7% in January 2025, with 39.8% share,
c.    Transport at -0.6% inflation in February from 0.5% in January 2025, with 9.1% share.

Also, lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of Clothing and Footwear at 6.3% from 6.8%, Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at 2.0% from 2.8%, as well as Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 2.4% from 2.7%. A reference deriving out of the data generated February from January 2025, respectively.

On the other hand, higher inflation rates were observed in the indices of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 7.7% from 4.7%, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 3.1% from 2.2%, Health at 3.7% from 3.2%, and Recreation, Sport and Culture at 3.2% from 3.1%. A reference deriving out of the data generated February from January 2025, respectively.

The indices for the rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s inflation, such as Information and Communication at 1.3%, Education Services at 18.4%, and Financial Services at 0.0%.

B.    Bacolod City

Further, the Headline Inflation Rates for All Income Households in Bacolod City remained constant at to 3.3% both in February and January 2025. In February 2024, the inflation rate was posted at 3.1% (Please see Table 1 and Figure 2).

The following commodity groups were the top three main sources to the February 2025 overall inflation for All Income Households in Bacolod City:

a.    Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 2.9% inflation both in February and January 2025, with 29.5% share,
b.    Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 8.1% inflation in February from 7.6% in January 2025, with 20.7% share,
c.    Education Services at 14.9% inflation both in and February and January 2025, with 14.3% share.

Also, the following commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s inflation, such as Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 2.9%, Education Services at 14.9%, Financial Services at 0.0%, and Personal Care and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 5.4%.

Meanwhile, higher inflation rates were observed in the indices of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 5.0% from 4.4%, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 1.5% from 0.1%, Health at 4.9% from 4.5%, and Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 8.1% from 7.6%. A reference deriving out of the data generated February from January 2025, respectively.

In the rest of the commodity groups, lower inflation rates were observed such as in the indices of Clothing and Footwear at 6.8% from 9.4%, Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at 2.3% from 3.0%, Transport at 
-1.1% from 0.7%, Information and Communication at 0.4% from 1.1%, and Recreation, Sport and Culture at 4.8% from 5.4%. A reference deriving out of the data generated February from January 2025, respectively.
