In 2023, the volume of corn production in Guimaras Province reached 1,317 metric tons, marking a significant dropped from the 1,981.82 metric tons harvested in 2022 translating to a reduction of 33.55 percent.
Moreover, was an 8.63 percent reduction from 2022 to 2021, and a 2.60 percent increase from 2020 to 2021. See Figure 1.
White corn production showed a consistent decrement from 2020 to 2023. There was a decline of 31.35 percent, dropping from 843.36 metric tons in 2022 to 579 metric tons in 2023.
Likewise, there was a reduction of 15.92 percent, from 1,003 metric tons in 2021 to 843.36 in 2022. Additionally, there was a slight shrinkage of 2.72 percent when comparing white corn production in 2020 and 2021 with 1,031 metric tons and 1,003 metric tons yield. See Figure 1.
The yellow corn constituted the majority of the province's total production, experienced a 35.18 percent decrease from 1,138.46 metric tons yield in 2022 to 738 metric tons in 2023. In 2021, it stood at 1,166 metric tons, reflecting a decrease of 2.36 percent compared to 2022. Moreover, there was a 7.66 percent improvement in 2021, with 1,166 metric tons yield over the 1,083 metric tons production in 2020. See Figure 1.
In 2020, the overall corn production reached to 2,114 metric tons. Yellow corn contributed the larger share, accounting for 51.23 percent of the total yield, which equates to 1,083 metric tons, while white corn contributed 48.77 percent, totaling 1,031 metric tons. See Figure 2.
Meanwhile, in 2021, the total corn yield was at 2,169 metric tons. Of this, 53.76 percent, equivalent to 1,166 metric tons, was shared by yellow corn, while the remaining 46.24 percent, totaling 1,003 metric tons, came from white corn. See Figure 3.
In 2022, the corn production totaled 1,981.82 metric tons. Yellow corn constituted 1,138.46 metric tons, representing 57.45 percent of the total yield, while white corn contributed 843.36 metric tons, shared 42.55 percent. See Figure 4.
Moving to 2023, the total corn yield reached 1,317 metric tons. Of this, 56.04 percent, equivalent to 738 metric tons, originated from yellow corn, while the remaining 43.96 percent, comprising 579 metric tons, was contributed by white corn. See Figures 2-5.
Over the span of four consecutive years (2020-2023), yellow corn has consistently predominated the Guimaras province's overall corn production. See Figures 2-5.
In terms of production per year, the data indicated that from 2020 to 2023, yellow corn steadily surpassed white corn, comprising more than half of the total corn production. See Figure 2-5.
Corn Area Harvested Decreases by 32.47% in Three Years
For four comparable years (2020-2023), the corn fields in Guimaras have experienced a consistent reduction, dwindling to 474 hectares in 2023, posting a decline of 32.47 percent from 649 hectares of corn area harvested in 2020.
In 2023, white cornfields dropped by 22.65 percent, from 336.13 hectares in 2022 to 260 hectares. Moreover, by 2023, 214 hectares of yellow cornfields had been harvested, lower than the 287.53 hectares in 2022, representing a 25.57 percent decrement. See Figure 6.
The white cornfields dominated the area harvested, comprising 54.85 percent of the provincial total, generating 260 hectares. Meanwhile, the remaining yellow cornfields accounted for 45.15 percent, or 214 hectares of corn area harvested. See Figure 7.
Definition of Terms
